What's this? A popular piece of the Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekends is the "Charity Auction." The funds raised from the sale of raffle tickets are used to help local organizations who help needy animals. For the 2009 Furry Weekend we will continue this practice and raise funds to help the Beaver County Humane Society , a local animal shelter that like so many are struggling to make ends meet and perform their necessary work. It can be said that the birth of the Beaver County Humane Society was one of the many rewarding
outgrowths of World War II. The first “shelter” was started in the 40’s when Lois Glenn Wolfe began In 1947, a group of Lois’ friends became interested in forming a society. On August 10th, 1950, the Beaver County Humane Society received its corporate charter as a non-profi t, tax exempt, charitable organization. This authorized the structuring of an animal shelter conducting all such business and activities with regards to the interests of animals in the state of PA. Last year's Charity Auction featured over 50 prizes, vouchers for services and commissions from many local and esteemed artists within the furry fandom. Other items included collectable knives, plush critters, candy, cards and games and much, much more!! What suprising items will this year's raffle hold? Only your donations will help answer that question. Donation and collection of items for the Auction. 1. We gratefully accept any donation of original work from artists - they are to be commended for devoting their labor to our causes. We also are happy to Auction off other types of donated items as long as they are legal. 2. Donated promises of custom services with the end result of a material item (i.e. fursuit or plush creations, leatherwork, art commissions) are also accepted and welcome, provided that a detailed description of the product or service is clearly spelled out for attendees before the Auction. However, other volunteer services are not permitted. 3. All items and offerings MUST be G-PG13 in nature. R-rated offerings require special permission from the Auction Director. 4. The item you donate, when delivered at the event or by mail, must contain a 3x5 card with pertinent information such as the donor, artist, medium, and any other important information an attendee should know so that the item may be properly announced. This is mainly to benefit the Auction Director, and so we know whom to thank! Cards will be made available at the donation table.
